Services

An exciting addition to the island of Guam’s educational system is the new GUAM PARENT INFORMATION RESOURCE CENTER, pronounced (PIRC). PIRC is funded through a U.S. Department of Education Federal Grant, so all services provided below are FREE!

Training Workshops:

Early Childhood Workshops

  • The first five years of a child’s life are the most important in a child’s development.
  • Birth to Five Training for Parents will be offered under Guam’s two locally developed programs: ALONG (All Learning Opportunities Nurture Growth) and GELG (Guam Early Learning Guidelines).
  • Two national research-based programs will also be offered in the future: PAT (Parents As Teachers) and HIPPY (Home Improvement for Parents of Pre-School Youngsters).

Other Workshops

  • Parenting Skills, Study Skills, How to Read the School’s Annual Report Card, and more will be offered for parents. Please call the Guam PIRC to find out about more info about the schedule of trainings.

Resource Materials

The Guam PIRC houses pamphlets and brochures from many local and national agencies. Directories of services are also available. A limited library of books, videos, CD’s and DVD’s is also available for use at the center only.

Computer Lab Services

Computers with high-speed Internet access are available for parents to help their children with homework, research projects, and more. Limited printing is available for school work and valid purposes to help children succeed in school.

Leadership Opportunities

The Guam PIRC needs and welcomes all volunteers! Parents, Interested Adults, and Youth can volunteer to help man the center, assist in daily operational activities, participate in Outreach events, or become a Parent Trainer, Mentor, or Tutor. Please call 477-7472 for more information.
