In early 2007, a group of parents who have children with differing disabilities came together to give families a louder voice and a greater presence on the island.
Members of four disability support groups—Austin Community Together (ACT), The Down Syndrome Association of Guam (DSAG), Guam Identifies Families’ Terrific Strengths (GIFTS) and the Guam Early Hearing Detection and Intervention
(Guam EHDI) Family
Support Group—joined forces to
create Guam’s
Positive Parents Together, Inc. (GPPT).
GPPT’S mission is to support and empower families who have children with disabilities, and to provide one voice and one vision for all children with disabilities on Guam. This coalition is the first on the island—and one of the few in America—that brings together families affected by development, physical and emotional disabilities. It is our hope that with our 501 ( c ) 3 non-profit status, we will be able to secure grants that will enable us to provide needed services for disabled individuals and their families.
GPPT is a representative organization. Each founding group has a member on the governing board of directors.
If your child has Autism Down Syndrome, a hearing impairment or emotional disabilities, we encourage you to join the support group for that disability.
If your child has an undiagnosed disability or a disability for which there is no established support group, you may call our representative, Ann Marie Cruz, at 653-7991 or 777-7991.
